VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM

The Charles A. Jones Skills and Business Education Center was granted approval by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians to offer a program which started on January 28th, 2008. The program was granted a four year accreditation by the BVNPT.

Current Approved Class Size: 40 Students
Current Class Started: October 6th, 2008  (class is full)
Current Graduation Date: June 25th, 2009

Program Length: 34 weeks, after completion of the pre-requisites

Days: Theory (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm), Clinical (Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm, & some Saturday classes)


ADMISSION PROCEDURE
  • Prior to being considered for admission to the program the following pre-requisites must be met. As per BVNPT rules there is a (5) year time out applied to all prerequisites.
  • The required pre-requisites below must be completed before you will be considered for admission
    (may not be taken concurrently)
  • Student intending to take pre-requisite classes at other colleges or universities are advised to consult with the CAJVN Program Director to determine if their planned courses will be accepted for credit.

Certified Nursing Assistant 10 hours - (10 hours of credit will be given to those completing a 150 hour Nursing Assistant course)

Pharmacology for Nurses (54 hours)  (EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 2008)
Any 54 hour course that was previously approved by CAJVN will be honored provided the completion date is prior to May 1st, 2008. YOU MUST HAVE PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR BEFORE ATTENDING ANY COURSE THAT OFFERS 54 HOURS OF BRN CREDIT. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE PRIOR APPROVAL YOUR COURSE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR CREDIT IN THE CAJVN PROGRAM. For more info please email us at info@cajvn.org.

CNA graduates from Charles A. Jones will be given admission preference.

Pre Testing Requirements
Write the Nursing Entrance Examination (C-NET) with a passing grade of 75% or higher.
Students must demonstrate proficiency in both English and math.


CNET-TESTING
C-NET Pre-Nursing Assessment: Next testing date TBA (all tests begin at 4:30pm)

All potential students are required to complete the C-NET pre-nursing assessment testing.

Study guides maybe obtained from C-NET for a fee of $50.00. The fee must be in the form of a money order as they do not accept personal checks or other forms of payment.

The study guides must be ordered directly from C-NET and are delivered within a 2 week period after receiving your order. The address for submission of your order is printed on the order form.

The Pre-nursing assessment test will be administered at the Skills and Business Education Center.

The testing dates will be announced on the web site and all students will have to register with the Skills Center prior to taking the exam.

The cost of the exam will be $45.00. The student must bring (2) money orders made payable: one for $25.00 payable to C-NET and the second for $20.00 payable to Charles A. Jones.

Order forms for the study guides maybe obtained in our student services office.


PROCESS for CONSIDERATION
  1. ALL potential applicants must attend a school orientation program which takes place every Wednesday morning (8:00am) at the main campus located at 5451 Lemon Hill Rd., Sacramento, CA. No reservation is necessary.
  2. All potential applicants must attend a Vocational Nursing Information Meeting prior to any interview with the Program Director. (Next Session, TBA). We will schedule additional sessions as necessary to facilitate the increased number of applicants that we are receiving.
  3. Prior to requesting an appointment with the Program Director one must have the following documentation on file with the Nursing office.
    1. One Official (sealed envelope) copy of high school transcripts or GED.
    2. Official (sealed envelope) transcripts for college work completed to date.
    3. Two (2) Professional Letters of Reference related to your employment duties and abilities and time in the position. We do not accept letters from friends or relatives.
    4. Immunization Record and TB Clearance Record (including Hepatitis Vaccine)
    5. First Aid and CPR Card.
    6. Copy of CNA/HHA Certificate.
    7. Copy of Current Malpractice Insurance Policy.
    8. In addition to being a CNA, all applicants must have a minimum of 6-12 months of experience upon completion of their CNA program.
    9. Must have a recent medical clearance indicating the student has zero restrictions or limitations regarding lifting up to 100 lbs.
    10. Students must demonstrate proficiency in both English and math.

If you attended High School outside the U.S. then you must have your High School transcripts officially evaluated and certified before we can accept them for admission. Students may not begin class without this documentation in their student file.

Waiting List: Please be advised that we "do not" maintain a waiting list and we admit as applicants become qualified to our program.
